What are BNP.TIFF and PDF

I am trying to edit a document in word 2003 that I have scaned but it looks
as if it was scaned as a picture in j peg the only other setting I have are
BNP,TIFF and PDFso wich one do I use it is Cannon scaner the manual is as
much use as a ashtray on a motorbike please help meI amnew to this computer

Scanning anything will normally only produce a 'picture' of whatever has
been scanned. To make it editable in Word you need to use a utility called
an OCR (Optical Character Recognition). Usually, a very basic version of OCR
is supplied on disk with your scanner. Make sure it is installed. Then scan
the document and tell the software to perform an OCR scan. This should
provide an editable version of the document.
