What causes Cannot Save messages

I am editing a template and the following 2 messages pop
up frequently without any action on my part. What causes
these messages to appear, and what can I do to prevent
them?

"You cannot save while the file is in use by another
process. Try saving the file with a new name."

"Saving the AutoRecovery file is postponed for "filename".

From what I can tell, certain punctuation marks in the filename cause
this problem. Microsoft references that you can't use a % mark in the
filename but I have found that - also causes a problem. Possibly other
marks too.

If you save your file with a alphanumeric filename only, you should
find that this problem goes away. Annoying huh?
