What causes split at END of task?

What causes a split to show at the end of a task (i.e. all of the work is
shown in a bar followed by a split, but no bar/work after the split)? This
results in tasks showing 100% work complete but something less % complete.
These tasks use Fixed Duration and, fortunately, I've found that I can
eliminate the split at the end by switching to Fixed Units or Fixed Work and
then back to Fixed Duration. But what causes this weird split (so I may be
able to avoid their creation)?

Hi Roadkill,

Where I have seen the trailing split is in Fixed Duration tasks when the
task duration is increased due to non-working time for one of the resources.
When the resource's calendar is modified with non-working time, Project will
increase the task duration to accommodate the non-working time.

If you then move the task to a different time, away from the non-working
time that caused the increase in duration, the trailing split occurs. The
resource actually finishes their scheduled work early (take a look at the
Task Usage or Resource Usage view) but the task carries on.

You found the fix, change the task back to Fixed Units or Fixed work to
cause the recalculation of the duration and then set it back to fixed
duration.
