What controls text block size?

I like to take notes in two columns. The first column is easy to create with
OneNote - Create a new note, enter a title, hit tab and you're on the first
line at the left margin. That column takes up about half of my screen. The
second column is also initially easy to create, just click on a blank area
and start typing.

Two problems exist.

First, the right hand column often picks a wrap margin that is far off the
edge of the screen. How can I get the default width of a text block to be
the same as the original text block that's created when I tab out of the
title?

The other problem is keeping the two columns aligned. After you have a
large column of notes on the left and a number of short notes on the right,
if you then add text somewhere in the middle of the left hand column, the
right hand column doesn't move at all. Shortly it will become misaligned
with the left.

One possible solution is the "insert empty space" tool. This works just as
expected, however, since it breaks the long column in two, it starts the
numbering of the left hand column over again. This is no good if you've got
a long outline going... The other problem with the insert empty space tool
is that there isn't the reverse action - you can't remove extra space and
shorten the distance between two sections up...

Any solutions or work arounds?

what version are you using?

can you explain your first issue a little more? I am not sure how you are
getting a second column that doesn't wrap at the edge of the screen, unless
your first outline is almost as wide as the whole page and thus there isn't
much room for the second column.

I'm also not clear how you want the second issue to work. if you have two
columns, adding text to one won't make the other longer. so I am not sure
what you want here. you could try a table with two columns.

Did you try working with a *table* ??
