What could be corrupting my FrontPage search bots?

My two search bots get corrupted after a day or two. (or less.) My
provider's server runs Windows 2000. He offers both FP2000 and FP2002
extensions. I use FP2000 extensions because I have a FP Discussion
forum that the FP2002 extensions corrupt. FP2002 extensions are not
compatible with FP Discussions.

My problem is that my search bots get corrupted. I have two searches
-- one on the root web and one on a discussion subweb.

I am wondering if having two sets of extensions on the same windows
machine might be a problem?

DETAILS:
The behavior of both webs, the root and the subweb, is intermittent.
That is, a fix will work one time and not another.

ROOT WEB: (http://samplingplans.com/) (The search links are in the
upper right corner)

Sometimes I can fix the root web's search bot by republishing from my
local Win98SE computer, followed by recalculate-hyperlinks. I can
count on the search bot being corrupted again in another day or
another hour.

When I publish the corrupted web back to my local Win98SE computer the
search works fine. The word "AQL" gets 10 hits on the root web.

SUBWEB: (http://samplingplans.com//forum/forum.htm) (The search links
are in the upper right corner)

Sometimes I can fix the subweb's search bot by republishing from my
local Win98SE computer. In this subweb though, a working search
becomes corrupted if I recalculate-hyperlinks.

As with the root web, when I publish the corrupted subweb back to my
local Win98SE computer the search works fine. The word "AQL" gets 250
hits on the subweb web.

My provider is ready to give up. Does anybody here have any ideas?

According to http://samplingplans.com/forum/_vti_inf.html forum is not a subweb
- it should be a FP subweb
And you have a folder naming error
http://samplingplans.com//forum/forum.htm should not have a double // in the path to the folder named //forum
interestingly you also have a http://www.samplingplans.com/forum/forum.htm with a single /

Using FrontPage in the root web (samplingplans.com) the folder /form/
has a globe on it indicating that /forum/ is a subweb.

However
http://samplingplans.com/forum/_vti_inf.html does not exist.
Frontpage cannot see it (it wouldn't) FTP connection doesn't see it,
and the link doesn't find it.

There are no "_vti_" files or folders in the subweb at all. Should
they be in a subweb? If so, what can I do about it?

When I publish the subweb to my local (Win98SE) computer it has lots
of _vti_ folders. (cnf, script, txt, pvt)
And you have a folder naming error
http://samplingplans.com//forum/forum.htm should not have a double // in the path to the folder named //forum

I think that is a typo that I made when posting the message. It is
interesting that the double slash actually works.

I'm still having trouble with web on the server.
My Frontpage web runs perfectly on my local computer both the main web
and a discussion subweb -- but not on the server. Here is today's
(6/2/07) example of failure on the server:

On a hunch (searching for a solution) I made a change to the subweb
locally. I moved disc1sam_nav.htm, _srch, _tocf, and _cfrm from
/_discussions/ to the 1st level of the subweb. The web still worked
locally so I tried to publish to the subweb on the server.

(1) Publishing over the current web:
I published with the option to not replace unchanged files. No error
but on the server the search bot did not work -- same result after
recalculating hyperlinks.

I published again with the option to "replace all pages, overwriting
any already on the destination". During this publication:

(1a) "An error occurred accessing your Frontpage files. ...
Webmasters, please see the server's system log for more details." This
was at 16:25 GMT. (plus or minus 5 minutes) I notified the server
administrator. No answer yet.

Thinking that something in the web on the server might be screwed up,
I decided to delete the subweb from the server and re-publish it from
scratch. I converted the subweb to a folder. When I tried to select
the folder in order to delete it, I got the same error (1a) above.

("An error occurred accessing your Frontpage files. ...")

More attempts to select the folder produce the following error:

"The server "" timed out. The current request did not complete
successfully."

(2) Server fixed itself:
I came back two hours later and was then able to select and open and
delete the contents of the folder -- but it would not let me delete
the folder itself. I converted the folder back to a subweb. (The
server operator told me that there had been no maintenance on the
server during the time that the folder became, but it had been very
busy earlier.)

(3) Published to empty folder:
I published the to the empty subweb with the option not to replace
unchanged files. This produced server error (1a, above) again.

Repeated the publish - no error but search doesn't work.

Published again with option "replace all pages, overwriting any
already on the destination". No errors. Hit counters work.

(4) Recalculate hyperlinks breaks subweb:
Recalculated hyperlinks, search failed (doesn't fine known words.)

Q1 -- Could it be that the server is not configured properly for FP?

Q2 -- Could it be that the server has a performance issue causing
results to vary from time to time?

Q3 -- What is most likely to be my problem?

Q4 -- What additional information could I get that would be useful?

Help will be appreciated,
Stan Hilliard

PS: The server is Windows 2000, extensions are FP2000.
