What differences exist between a CAL and Standard license?

We are trying to decide what type of licensing to purchase for a new MS
Project Server environment. It's a relatively small project group (<10) but
there will be up to 50 people that will need to view/update project tasks and
statuses on the server. We are purchasing one Pro license for the PM and are
trying to decide if everyone else needs a full blown Standard license or a
CAL. What are the limitations to a CAL? We would like remote workers to
have the ability to view their tasks, update them and for executives to
perform what if scenarios and run reports. Would a CAL give us this
functionality or not?

Hi QDZ,

One CAL per person who uses Project Web Access is required. This means if
your 50 staff members "only" want to view inforamtion and add time and issues
and risks etc, then you will only need a CAL.

Please note the "standard" License for MS Project does not connect to
Project Server. What you need is

- Project Professional for your PM's ( the people who create and update
Projects)
- A CAL for each user who accesses Project Server using Project Web access.
- You may also need one CAL per Project Web Access users for your SQL
Database ( but only if you dont have enough).

I hope that this helps
