What do I do if when saving it won't let me?

An hour glass comes up but won't open to save, then it says it is not
responding. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program several times and
it still won't work.

OK. Let's have some details please as we ain't clairvoyants.

Version of Word
Version of OS
Are they patched up to date
Are you saving to your local hard disk drive or where?
Are there any error messages?
Is this with any document including a newly created document?
