what do recipients of email use to open mdi file attachment?

I am scanning documents using Hp ScanJet Copy software to Microsoft document
imaging and then sending as an email attachment. What is required by the
recipents to open, read and print the attachment? How do I instruct them.
They are legal secretaries but short on the adventure scale.

The Document Imaging program uses the extension .tiff. An image viewer will open the
file or it can be imported into Word as an image.
If you have used the OCR utility the document can be opened in Word as a regular
..doc.
