what does "beta software expired" mean

I have a verified version of Office professional plus 2007 (beta), which has
been activated for some months. Today as I was working on word, a message
tells me that my beta software has expired and that I should remove the beta
software from the control panel. All my office programs have stopped working.

I ran office diagnostics, and it says that my office software is out of
date, and I should get a newer version. However, I only have had this for 2
months.

What does this all mean?

The length of time that you've had it doesn't matter. You had the first beta
and it's been widely known that it was going to expire on January 31. You
also received an email (about two weeks ago) at the address you gave when
you download the beta telling you it was going to expire shortly.

You options now are to buy the full version or download a trial version that
will expire in two months and buy the full version at that point. Either
way, you need to back up your files and uninstall that beta before doing
something else.
