What does not a valid win32 application mean?

I downloaded(tried) a trial version of Office standard 2003. When I
doubleclick the icon, I get a message that it is not a valid win32
application. What does this mean and can I fix it?

I have Windows XP. I'll search some more. ...Thanks
I need this to run for a college class. Can I get a download for Power
Point somewhere? That's all I really NEED?
