What does this IMAP error message mean?

Unable to add message to IMAP mailbox. The corresponding local folder will be used instead

The mail browser is unable move an email message to the IMAP folder so that it can be saved to the server. There might be a couple of reasons for this, but usually it is a connectivity issue (either your internet connection is down or the server is unavailable), so you are unable to move the message to the mailbox folder you would like on the remote server.

Sounds like a Rule is trying to move a POP or Exchange message to an IMAP
folder.

POP messages can be moved to IMAP folders and back to local folders. That shouldn't be an issue.

To my knowledge, I have neither a connectivity issue nor a server issue. Mail is coming and going. The rest of what you are saying I don't get because I don't really understand IMAP

Short version:

IMAP works by keeping mail on the server. POP works by downloading your mail
to your computer.

If your rule is moving messages from folders "On My Computer" to an IMAP
folder or vice versa, your connection could be part of the problem.
