Word could be used as the email editor in Outlook 2003, and it could be
configured to automatically use a different color for inline comments each
time the user replied to a message.
So if a message goes back and forth several times between users, each time a
user replied Word would use a different color, making the thread of the
message easier to follow.
It appears that this feature has disappeared in Outlook 2007
