What Happened To My File Menu

I'm running Microsoft Office 2004 on my Mac G3 laptop PowerPC.

And I no longer have a "File" Menu.

The menu on the top of the screen goes from Word to View to Insert.

I can't find out how to restore File to the Menu list.

I've checked Preferences and don't see anything to help.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. (I'm sure it will be
something obvious after someone explains it!)

PS: The Microsoft Office phone representatives have offered to explain
what to do, but for that price I could just buy a new computer...:)

One way:

Choose Tools/Customize/Customize Toolbars/Menus... In the Toolbars
pane, select Menu Bar (so that the name is highlighted, not just the
checkbox checked). Click Reset, then OK.
