what happened to the master catagory list in Outlook 2007 vs. 03?

Categories, calendar color labels, and colored message flags are combined in Outlook 2007 into a revamped categories feature that includes color coding. Any categories actively in use in your own folders should have been migrated when you upgraded to Outlook 2007.

agHi:

They didn't. The catagories for individual items such as "Japan Customer"
for a contact or "China trip 05" for an appointment were retained for
existing items. But the entire list is gone. If I open an item then the
specific catagory(s) associated with it shows up in the catagory list & is
available to add to the master list but that would mean going through years
of appointments & hundreds of contacts to make sure every one was included.
Any ideas on an easier way?

Thanks

If you click Categorize | All Categories, do you see them?

If not, try this: First, make a backup of your .pst file. In the navigation pane, right-click the top of the information store that holds these items and choose Properties. You should see a button to Upgrade to Color Categoriies.

Categories and view colors are two entirely different things, except in calendar folders. If you want to color your contacts, modify the view to add automatic formatting runs.

Would you please be more specific on steps (so each Contact item will display
in its associated Category color)? I am new to this.

Would it be nice feature to see contact folder shows different colors that
represent categories, for example, Friends, Bank, Business, ... (as in
Calendar folder that has color labels on appointments).

Many thanks.

View | Current View | Customize Current View | Automatic Formatting. Add a rule for each category. Click the Condition button to set up the filter for the particular category. Click the Font button to set the color for the display text.
