What happened to the "Versions" feature in Word?

In Word 2004, under the File menu, one of the options is "Versions". This allows you to save multiple versions of a document in the same file. I have been unable to find a similar function in Word 2008. Did Microsoft get rid of this feature, or am I overlooking something? Thanks for your help.

The Versions feature has indeed gone :)

Storing multiple versions in a single document file was an almost guaranteed
method of breaking the document and losing data.

Word 2008 should be able to "read" a file that contains versions and copy
out the latest version. But the function to "write" versions has been
removed because of the problems it was causing!

Dear John,

Thanks so much for this reply. Guess I'll have to just save versions in different files from now on. I appreciate your help.
