What Happens if I Reset the Normal.dot Template?

I have three templates named: Normal.dot, Normal1.dot, and Normal2.dot. The
second and third .dots were created by myself when I received a prompt asking
me if I wanted to save changes to the global template, right before shutting
down my computer. What happens if I deleted all three? Will any of my other
document templates that I have created previously still work?

Word only uses the template named Normal.dot – the ones named Normal1.dot and
Normal2.dot are not used unless you specifically attach them as templates to
documents.

Your other templates will not be affected if you delete Normal.dot.

If no Normal.dot is found, Word will automatically create a new Normal.dot
but you will lose any keyboard shortcuts, AutoTexts, macros and toolbars you
have saved in Normal.dot plus any other modifications you have made to
Normal.dot (e.g. style modifications). If your current Normal.dot contains
such customization, you could first rename it to something else. When the new
Normal.dot has been created by Word, you can use the Organizer (Tools >
Templates and Add-Ins > Organizer) to copy styles, AutoTexts, toolbars and
macros from each of the old Normal.dot files to the new Normal.dot. If your
current Normal.dot is healthy, you could also keep it and copy customizations
form Normal1.dot and Normal2.dot to Normal.dot – or, in case Normal1.dot or
Normal2.dot are better, you could rename the preferred one to Normal.dot.
