What-if analysis whit versions in Project Server 2003

Hi,

My issue regards Project 2003 EPM, what-if analysis and versions.
Hypothesis I’ve a project naming convention constrain and for what-if
analysis purposes I’ve created an alternative version (say abc.whatif) of a
published project in progress (abc.published).

Now I realize that the - in the meanwhile altered - alternative version is
better than the published one: how to replace the published version whit the
alternative one?

I can’t use the “save as†feature from the alternative version in order to
overwrite the published one: Project Server 2003 doesn’t allow it.

I can’t save the alternative version as a published one with a different
name because of my naming convention constrain (and Project Server 2003
doesn’t allow published project renaming).

I can’t delete the published version from the Clean up Project Server
database page in Web Access because it causes the deletion of all its
ancillary versions (including the .whatif one I would like to preserve).

The scenario you describe is one of the limitations with using alternate
Versions in Project Server 2003. To replace the Published version with the
alternate version, refer to the following FAQ:
