What is a Workgroup type project?

Projects of the Workgroup type occasionally appear in the Project Server
Database. I would like to know what these are and how they created.
Thank you and regards

A Workgroup project is a project that someone saved outside the Project
Server database as an .mpp file and then published the project. Your
Project Server admininstrator needs to do two things immediately to correct
this problem. First, he/she needs to disable the Project Server permission
that is allowing this problem to occur by completing these steps:

1. Log into PWA with administrator permissions
2. Click Admin - Server Conifuration
3. Select the "Allow only enterprise projects to be published to this
server" permission
4. Click the Save Changes button

Second, he/she needs to delete every Workgroup project from the Project
Server database using Admin - Clean Up Project Server Database. Hope this
helps.

Dale,

Apparently this Enterprise feature was not originally turned on in our
server configuration. I arrived on the scene after many projects have been
published. The non-enterprise projects are now a problem. So how do I
identify a non-enterprise project so I can delete it and or import it back
into the server the right way?
Thanks,

If you navigate to Admin - Clean up Project Server Database, you can see in
the list of projects those projects that are workgroup projects. Hope this
helps.

Dale,

Thanks. I did find those projects. Now here is my next problem. Some
projects that are designated Workgroup type that I found in the "clean up"
list in Admin do not appear in Project Center or in the list of published
projects within Project Professional. So I cannot access them. I have Admin
rights. Do you know why? How can I fix this problem?
Thanks again.

Because they are Workgroup projects, this means that they are not stored in
the Project Server database. They are probably on a user's hard drive or in
a folder on a network drive, and are stored as .mpp files. Because you
delete any of them, you should determine their current location. After you
know this, you can delete the Workgroup version of each project in Project
Server, and then import the .mpp files one at a time into the Project Server
system. Hope this helps.
