What is a wp9 template?

Somehow (?) I corrupted a word 2000 file and all the formatting went crazy.
In the template window there are a lot of WP9 entries.

Word inserted new blank lines and moved some individual words. This is a
document that I am editing for a friend. The document was sent to me by
e-mail.

Any Ideas?
