Thanks for the info, Jay. A couple of further notes:
1. The URL in your reply is to a page that has another link. The target for
that link has changed to
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/Aa172998(office.11).aspx. (This is
not a big deal, because following the old link leads to a redirect, so you
get to the right place in any case.)
2. I did the Google search that you did, except with "layout in table cell,"
word, and picture (instead of box). Among the scanty results was following
nugget from Dick Eassom:
Layout in table cell is a feature introduced in Word 2003 that is checked by
default... If checked, it forces the AutoShape to position inside an
underlying table cell; if unchecked, the AutoShape can float over a cell
boundary.
I did a little experimenting with a floating picture. When "layout in table
cell" was turned off, I did occassionally manage to drag the graphic so that
it floated over a cell boundary. When this happened, the text in the table
was either behind or in front of the picture (i.e., overlapping the picture).
Usually the picture stayed within the borders of a cell, and row height
adjusted to hold the picture. I also noticed that "layout in table cell" kept
getting selected again all by itself.
So this option remains a bit mysterious. At least I know now it isn't some
great new thing that I want to take advantage of.
Thanks again.
