What is my file reformatted in another computer?

I have a long document (172pages) in which I defined some of my own
styles
such as 'Body' (24pt line spacing). However, on my boss' laptop, the
line
spacing is changed to single space; other headings have been changed
too. We both use Windows XP sp2 and Microsoft Office 2003. My file
reads all right on other computers.

Can anyone suggest some way to solve this problem? What could be
the causes? Thanks a lot!!

Hi aamixy -
Did you actually create new styles or just directly apply formatting to
the existing Body style? If you changed the style then you could check
that the automatically update styles is NOT switched on. Open the
document, click on Tools, Templates and Add-ins and ensure the
Automatically Update Styles does not have a tick in the box. Also,
click on Format, Styles and Formatting. Chose the Body style from the
task pane and click the down arrow and choose Modify. Ensure there is
not a tick in the Automatically Update.

If you are using a style name which is standard (e.g. Body TExt), then
your boss's laptop will have the same style name in his Normal.dot. If
the automatically update is switched on, the formatting applied will be
that of the Normal.dot style on any given machine. Don't know why it
would open on other machines OK though!! Let me know if this worked at
all.

Hi Lynn,

You are the expert. I got the same suggestion in another group. Yes,
I now unchecked ALL the boxes (in style definition windows and
in the Tools-->Templates and Add-Ins) related to 'Automatically Update'
stuff. It works.

I use Body (a self-defined style), not Body Text.

Yes, it is still a mystery that my file works on all other computers
that I randomly selected to test the file.

Thanks for your suggestion.
