What is the difference between Office for Machome and student edition and Office 2008 for Mac?

hi, am thinking of purchasing either one, but don't understand what the difference is. In the description they say that Office 2008 contains Microsoft Server Exchange Support and Automator Actions for Workflows in Microsoft Office in addition to standard programs. I also know that Microsoft Server Exchange support is necessary for certain advanced features of Entourage to work, but i don't know what features and also what about Automator Actions? I would like to make a decision on whether i need those or not. Also, I have Office 2001 so if i buy any new Office 2008 will all the data that i have in Entourage, including contacts, emails, categories and calendar transfer safely to the new Entourage?

Hi,

Exchange support is only necessary if you actually use an Exchange account.
Entourage works fine with any POP or IMAP account; since most home users do
not have access to Exchange, the chances of your ever needing Exchange
support are relatively low. The Automator actions can be quite useful
depending on your workflow, but they are not worth the price difference
between the Home and Student and the Standard edition. However, since you
own Office 2001, you might want to consider getting the upgrade to the
Standard edition, which is considerably cheaper than the regular Standard
edition (albeit still more expensive than the Home and Student edition).

One thing to keep in mind is the fact that the H&S edition comes with three
licenses, meaning that you can install it on up to three machines in your
household. However, the H&S edition can only be used for non-commercial
purposes; if you need to use Office to run your business, you need to get
the Standard or Special Media editions.

And to answer your last question: Entourage 2008 allows you to import your
Entourage 2001 database.

And to answer your last question: Entourage 2008 allows you to import your
Entourage 2001 database.

It should import 2001 but most likely nothing will be imported. Even
Entourage X users have problems getting their data into Entourage 2008.

Apple Mail does import from Entourage 2001. You could use it to import then
import Apple Mail into Entourage.
