What is the easiest way to re-add installation registry entries?

I'm not able to apply any updates to my Office (Student and Teacher Edition
2003) software because a registry cleaner deleted some required registry
entries. The support document that I was sent to was extremely complicated
to nearly impossible to decipher. I've tried running the setup program off
of my original CD to hopefully repair the registry entries, but that has the
same issue. I don't want to uninstall everything and then reinstall if I can
help it. If I do that, won't I lose my customizations and settings?

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Jay

Hi, Jay,

You don't mention what error is being displayed, or if you searched the
Microsoft Knowledge Base yourself for assistance.

You also don't mention what article you were sent to, so it's hard to gauge
how appropriate it was for your situation. However, you can try running the
Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to clear out Windows Installer registry
data related to Office, and then re-install Office from your original CDs.
You are unlikely to delete any customizations and settings by doing this (or
by uninstalling Office, for that matter).

290301 - Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility:

If the article you were sent was a good troubleshooting article from
Microsoft that relates directly to your issue, and you're not able to use
it, you might need to resort to finding a local computer professional, or
contacting Microsoft Product Support to get some assistance. My
understanding is that Microsoft Product Support often handles installation
and patching issues at no charge, and you will not be charged without your
consent.
