What is the meaning of Chrome State [PWA 2007]

What is the meaning of "Chrome State" in the right pannel when we are
editing the Web Part of a page such as My Tasks?

The Chrome State defines whether the web part is minimised or maximised when
you load the page. this is akin to minimising or maximising an normal
Windows application.

But where this word Chrome comes from?
I knom 'chrome' for my car - they are a little dirty :-(
but I don't know any polished chromes for a software. Does it has a specific
meaning here?
