What is the Sort Logic for Team Builder Lite?

Sir Ganttalot

Hi, can anyone tell me what the sort logic is for the resource names that
appear in the "Filtered Enterprise Resources" box in the PWA Team Builder
Lite ("Build Team") feature? At first sight they appear alphabetical,
however for a large resource pool the names appear in several consecutive
waves of alphabetically arranged names. So you have to scroll through many,
many groups to find a particular person. It looks as though there is a major
sort criterion, with alphabetical as a secondary sort. The problem is I
can't tell what that first sort criterion is. It definitely does not seem to
be by RBS. Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks Gary. Incidentally this is P2003. For this particular feature, Team
Builder Lite, there is only the default sort available. Sadly I can't
specify the sort, unless I am missing something. We have 3500 enterprise
resources, and almost without exception they were created in very small
batches, much smaller than the sub groups that appear in the box. I'm
wondering if there is some reassignment of record numbers that happens when
we migrate from one server to another, do database restores and other
activities in the life of a growing deployment. Actually the REAL reason for
the question is that in Project Pro, the full Build Team from Enterpise is
now taking 5 minutes to open the full pool, so the Lite version in PWA would
be a handy workaround IF ONLY the sort was reasonable, and the user did not
have to scroll so far. Any pointers on reasons for Build Team from
Enterprise in PRO becoming so terribly slow over time?

I believe that until you apply grouping or sorting, the natural order is by
record number in the database. That's why you see alphabetical batches, as
that's how they were likely brought into the system

For the slow open in the Pro client, you may need to deselect the load
resource assignments option on logon, at least when you intend to do team
building. That should improve performance. The team builder light was
designed to be used by resource managers who generally have a handful of
resources for which they're responsible. A good implementation design would
automatically restrict the user's abilbity to view resources outside this
small sphere of responsibility which would make this question moot in the
asking. I take it your system is not leveraging the RBS to accomplish this.
You can probably gain a lot of performance by employing some more security
on the resource pool without limiting people to less than they need to see.
