WHAT IS THE ORPHAN AND WIDOW FEATURE IN WORD2003?

Please turn off your Caps Lock key -- it's considered like shouting in
the newsgroups.

"Widow" and "orphan" are old printers' terms. A "widow" is the last
line of a paragraph that appears by itself at the top of a page. An
"orphan" is the first line of a paragraph that appears by itself at
the bottom of a page. Both of these are considered to be bad
typography.

When you check the Widow/Orphan Control option in the Format >
Paragraph dialog or in the paragraph settings of a style, Word will
prevent any orphan or widow by placing at least two lines of the
paragraph together on each page when an automatic page break occurs in
that paragraph.
