what kind of field should i use

I have some forms set up that require the client's name filled in in several
differnt fields. I use a "fill-in" field to Prompt the user to fill in the
clients name. because this same name occurs in about 4 places in the form I
would like to be able to type it in once and then update every other
occurence of the same name without have to ask for "client's name" four
times. can anyone suggest a quick alternative? thanks for any suggestions.

Hi BRC,

If they are just forms into which data is entered, you could use a formfield
and then in the other locations, use a crossreference to the text of the
bookmark that is assigned to the formfield. In the properties dialog of the
formfield, check the Calculate on exit box so that the cross references are
updated to replect the information entered into the formfield.

If it's more of a document than a form, and the protection that has to be
applied to this type of form imposes too many limitations, then you could
consider using a userform.

Doug
thanks for the input, i havn't had time yet to check everything you told me
about. One thing i should have been more clear about. I used the term
"forms" , I should have used the term "contracts". I have to be able to
print them out as documents. thanks again
