What picture formats work?

Margaret Lyman

I am trying to insert a picture from file in Word 2004. I have tried
both tiff and jpg file formats. I have tried them direct from my
scanner, which saves in both tiff and jpg format. I have tried using
Graphic Converter and saving a copy as both tiff and jpg. I have tried
using Preview and exporting into jpg. Regardless of how my picture
file is created, it always shows up in my Word document as an empty
box, which I can do nothing with (can't move it, use any of the
picture toolbar functions on it, etc.) Microsoft Office Help tells me
this is because I am trying to insert a picture that is in a format
Office does not recognize, but I do not think that tiff and jpg
formats are THAT obscure!

If you can help me with this vexing problem, I would really appreciate
it.

I inserted several .tiff an .jpg files into Word 2004 document today
without any problem. The .jpg files were converted in GraphicConverter form
..tiff. The .tiff's were made by Grab. There's no problem/

So it's got to be something else.

Choose Preferences/View and uncheck the Image Placeholders checkbox.

Changing my preferences worked. Thanks, friends.
