What program to use to set up personal calendar?

I need to design a specific appointment calendar for a non profit I volunteer
at and want some ideas on what program might fit my needs. What I am looking
for is to some how have a calendar to pick the month and day and on each day
be able to list name, phone # and some other information but they do not need
to be a specific time. We only schedule maybe 2-3 appts a day. It needs to
be in a real user friendly program as some of the staff is not to computer
literate. I looked at using the outlook calendar but I really need to be
able to personalize it to what the needs are. I would like to design the
form we use already for appointments so I was thinking like in word or excel
but not sure how a calendar would work in these programs so you can pick the
month and day. Any ideas?

If you set a calendar up in Word or Excel, you could start with a template
but there are several benefits to using Outlook.
1. You are probably already using it for email. (It does so much more than
just that - get your money's worth!)
2. You can set it up with reminders.
3. You don't have to try to find a template you like and fuss with it. the
calendar is already there waiting for you.
