What Project version to upgrade to?

We currently have 10 users of Project 2000. The mpp files are saved on our
file server to share amoung the users. Our reseller told us that if we
purchase Project 2003 Standard they would not be able to continue using
Project in the manner. Instead, they couldn't create a project then save it
and someone else open it. The professional version was recommended to us
instead. Would someone confirm or deny this please? Thank you for you help.

This is completely wrong! When working with .mpp files on a file server
Project Standard 2003 works Exactly the same as Project 2000, and exactly
the same as Project Pro 2003. Project Pro is not required for this
situation. I would find a different reseller as this one is either
incompetent or unethical.

Project Pro is necessary when you are using Project Server 2003. This is
additional software and works much differently than simply storing files on
a file server.

Adding to Jack's excellent response - not only is the dealer giving you
incorrect information, if he tries to convince you to buy the 50% more
expensive Project Professional instead of Project Standard "because it has
more features" or some such, that too would be incorrect. Unless you
specifically have Project Server installed in your network, the
functionality of the Standard and Professional versions are identical.
