When moving an email to a different folder, the message stays in that folder
with a strike through for a few days. I need to know how to change the
setting for the messages to move righ away. Can anyone help?

Then you are using an IMAP account as the strike-through means that you
told Outlook to delete the message but it has not yet been purged from
the mail host. After deleting an e-mail for an IMAP account, you need
to Purge them (which tells Outlook to sync the mail host by deleting the
copy of the message up on the server in your mailbox).

What's the point of moving around messages that you chose to delete?

A move in an IMAP account is a copy then delete. The original message will
show with the overstrike.

Oh, I guess Outlook was literal in duplicating what commands are used
for the move rather than showing what would be the result. Guess the OP
should put the Purge button in his toolbar so it is easily and quickly
available to get rid of the strikethrough items.

I prefer to use the "Hide Messages Marked for Deletion" view.

If you hide the strikethrough messages - don't you just end up with a huge
amount of hidden email that needs to be purged? Do you then just manually
remember to purge from time to time?

It would be good of there was a way of automatically purging all folders of
strikethrough emails - I coudl not see a way of doing that with rules. Is
there a way?

Otherwise I end up with emails to purge from my inbox, trash and any other
folders where I end up deleting or moving email around.... With many many
folders in my email heirarchy, this purging thing seems a very inefficient
way to work...

Any ideas?

Many thanks

What version of Outlook? I use the autopurge setting in 2007 to purge when I
change folders. Otherwise, you do need to remember to do it now and again.

I do not find it difficult to remember to purge every now and then. It's a
simple matter of discipline.
