What to do about Word 2003 API bugs?

Hello,

We are making extensive use of Word 2003's API in our
current projects, and we are running into all kinds of
problems, sometimes clearly demonstrable bugs. What is the
best way/place to report such bugs? Realistically, what
are the chances that something broken now will be fixed in
the first service pack?

Is there a newsgroups dedicated to Office/Word 2003
specifically? I know there was one for the Beta, but it's
closed already.

Thanks.

Hi Chango,

I'd suggest you can read this web page which will introduce you how to report one bug to Microsoft. Please go to:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions/faq/default.asp

You can search the page with the key word "bug" to find the item.

So far as I know, there is no one queue only for Office word 2003. But in Technet, there is one queue for the word 2003. Its address is:
Microsoft.private.directaccess.office2003.word

In addition, you can obtain more information about the tech subscription from the link.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks for the reply. How can I access this 'private'
newsgroup? I tried with our MSDN Subscription Passport
account, but it didn't let me in.

Hi Chango,

Thank you for replying!

The private queue is Technet managed subscription newsgroup. After obtaining a technet subscription, you shoud register in the technet database.
Then you can obtain the information for accessing the technet database. You can obtain more information baout this from the links.

The word.vba.general group would probably be the best place
to go with any bugs that have to do with the Word VBA
interface (best as in highly frequented). Any Word-MVP who
can reproduce the problem can report the bugs directly to the
Word team. There's no guarantee they'd get fixed in a SP, or
even in the next version :) But you could be assured they
get into the database.

Thanks for the reply, Cindy. One thing sounds very
encouraging to me: that bug reports to the newsgroups have
a good chance to make it into Microsoft's bug-tracking
system. I hope this is true.
I didn't know about the MVP program. Your post led me to
the group website - very illuminating and reassuring (that
someone is willing to share the pain). Thanks!
