What tool should I use to view XP computer configuration information?

You might try asking in a group that pertains to Windows XP - this one is
for MS Office on the Macintosh

It depends on what "configuration information" you're looking for but you
might start by right-clicking the My Computer icon & selecting Properties as
well as exploring the Control Panel... And having a look in the Windows XP
Help on how to use the operating system can't hurt either

You can boot with a Ubuntu CD and view all the files/folders on your XP
hard drive.
