What type of .PST file do I have and no Defrag

Is there any way for me to find out what kind of .PST file my Outlook 2003
is using? I want to know because when the file gets over one GB, I get a
solid red bar in the XP defrag and at the end it says it can defrag the .PST
file. If I delete enough messages and then do a compact, the red bar goes
away but I really would like to keep all my messages and not have to do
this. Any suggestions?

If you mean what format pst, within Outlook, rt click Personal
Folders>Properties>Advanced, under format if its an ansi pst it will say
97 - 2007 format, otherwise its a unicode format pst

Use the archive option to reduce the size of the pst, then compact

You may not have enough unfragmented free space on your HD/partition, so
files over a certain size cannot be defragmented completely.

However, files over 1GB will never be read in one go; they will always
be read in multiple chunks, so a bit of fragmentation in large files
will not make any performance difference whatsoever.
