what went wrong

Recently, I bought a Dell E521, AMD Athlon 64, 2Mb RAM, with Windows Vista
and Office 2007 installed. Because I'm severely disabled, I installed Dragon
NaturallySpeaking 9.5. This suddenly stopped working, and I couldn't get it
to reinstall. A couple of days later, I closed Office 2007 normally and shut
down the computer. The next morning I got the message that the 2007 programs
were corrupt and needed to be reinstalled (not possible, since I wrongly
assumed that Dell had sent a reinstallation disk). The following morning
they had disappeared altogether. So I'm back to WordPerfect. I might want
to buy and install Office 2007 again, but I can't do so until I figure out
what happened to the first installation. Any ideas?

You need to contact Dell and insist on a restore disk for all programs that you purchased with the computer. Many OEMs will have a restore partition on the computer that you can make your installation CDs from but if I were you, tell them that this did not work and insist on a restore disk.

Many thanks. To my surprise, the Dell representative readily agreed to send
both Office 2007 and Vista disks. Now if I can just figure out what caused
the catastrophe in the first place. . . .
