What's Desktop.DB, DF?

I just have Word Viewer. I'm checking out a CD for someone and it has

..doc file
Desktop.DB
Desktop.DF

I can view the .doc file in Word Viewer, but there are boxes with big red
"X"'s.

Can anyone enlighten me?
TIA

Boxes with big red Xs mean the document was created in an early version of
Word (98 without the service packs, or earlier), and has more graphics in it
than Word was able to handle. The big Xs are where there were originally
graphics. The document is unrecoverable, in my experience. If this document
was on a CD, you need to wonder why the creator didn't check it before
despatch.
