when clicking things get dragged

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) When I click on an item and then move the mouse, the item moves even though I released the mouse. How do I stop this? It's driving me crazy!!

What kind of Mouse do you have? It sounds like it may be one that supports a
feature commonly referred to as 'clicklock'. Check the System Preferences
for the device & adjust accordingly. If you actually have a notebook Mac the
preferences for the 'Trackpad' refer to the setting as "Drag Lock".
