When Creating a mail merge

R

Roy A.

I have a Windows NT machine and Microsoft Word XP
processore.

When I try to do a mail merge I encounter this error
message:

"Operation Could Not Be Completed because of Dialog or
Database Engine Failure" Error Message When You Try to
Perform a Mail Merge.

Thanks for your assistance

I haven't created the actual data yet, What I would like
to know is what is the recommended type of format that
should be used for an Address book. The only way that I
know of is doing a mail merge in Word which, I would
rather user another method. So, what I am looking for as
the outcome is to be able to insert go to my address book
and just type in the persons name and then insert the
address.

Thanks,

Roy A.

Hi Roy,

Your problem description is a bit confusing... If you
haven't created any data, then Word cannot link up to a data
source, so that would explain the first error message you
reported...

You say you want to use an "Address book". Do you already
have an Address Book? In what application?

Basically, Word can only link to address books that are
MAPI-Registered, such as Outlook. It cannot link to Outlook
Express. If you have addresses in a non-MAPI application,
such as OE, then you first need to export the addresses to a
delimited text format, then Word can link to that.
