Hi,

We are having a silly pointless debate about project. I
first used V1.37 in the mid 90's but we have an old think
he knows it all here who said that he has been using
Project since the early 80's and I think he is talking
untter crap.

Please can someone tell me;

1) When did the first issue of Project Come out?
2) What was is it known as?

I would greatly appreciate your assistance on this.

Regards

Version 1.0 was released in 1990.

I don't know much about the early days, but there was a scheduling tool
called Project before Microsoft started selling "Microsoft Project". It may
have been this tool which he used. The existance of that other software is
why you ALWAYS see microsoft refer to project as "Microsoft Project" whereas
excel and word do not necessarily have that prefix.

He must be referring to the DOS version of MS Project. MS Project for
Windows version 1 was released in 1990. MS Project for DOS was around in the
mid 80's but I doubt any earlier than 1985 or so (at least as MS Project) .
I believe Microsoft bought the DOS version from someone but I don't recall
the name of the company or the original name of the software. I do know that
MS Project has always been a PC-based product which means it probably was
not around in any form prior to 1983/84 when hard disks were first
introduced.
