When does ON save a page?

A

Arthur Dent

Im just curious, when does onenote actually write outstanding page changes
to disk?
I like to click the save button every 5 or 10 minutes. But onenote doesnt
have one.

Does it save when you switch pages? Can i use that to force a flush to disk?

Thanks in advance,
- Arthur Dent.

From OneNote's Help section:
=====
" . . . OneNote 2003 automatically saves your section when you close a
notebook or exit OneNote. OneNote also saves your work continuously while
you use OneNote . . . "

You can also tell ON to release files when ON is inactive, a nice feature.
Do tools>options>open and save and under "accessing files from multiple
locations" check the box and then say how long you want ON to wait. I use
synchronization software to sync my desktop and laptop, so I tell it to let
go of the files after a minute of inactivity so my ON files will almost
always be synced on the two computers.

yeah, but the question there is what exactly is "continuously"? every
minute, 5, 10 ?

You can force the save by pressing Ctrl+S shortcut (if that makes you feel
better:))

Not all OneNote users have a keyboard present at all times, Irina. A slate
model Tablet PC with no keyboard present, the user can go to File/Save As,
or simply close OneNote.

There's no need. OneNote saves:
1. every 30 sec
2. when you switch to another section
3. when you close a section
4. when you quit OneNote
5. certain other situations which might require us to save
6. if you hit Ctrl-S, which we decided to do only because "beeping" would be
pointless, and we can't use that key combo for anything else given that so
many other apps use it to save given that they do not autosave.

This should cover any conceivable case. There's no need to save manually. We
even make two (2) backups for you of any section.

Hope that helps!
