When doing a project can you toggle between start date and finishdate

I have to complete my project on a specific date. At the moment it is
set up just with a project start date. Can I toggle between project
start date and project finish date withough having any serious
repercussions?

Thank you

I suggest scheduling from teh start date as this is the "As Soon As Possible"
approach. If you schedule from the finish date, the tasks become "As Late As
Possible" leaving you no margin for corrective action.

Using the schedule from start approach, develop your network. Of course you
will have a "Project Complete" milestonne that all tasks will eventually
trace to. Set a deadline date on the Project Complete milestone. If that
date is ever exceeded you can look at the total slack column to see which
chain of tasks is driving it (they will have negative total slack).

As Jim said. Scheduling backwards from a desired completion date is an
interesting academic exercise but trying to work such as a schedule almost
always insures the project will fail to meet its deadlines. Scheduling
backwards starts every task as late as possible - if anything takes longer
than expected, nothing afterwards will be able to start on time, and the one
thing you can absolutely count on in every project is that at least one task
will finish late!
