when I add resources my durations don't change - Why?

My project is set up as fixed unit and effort driven. When I add resources
to my tasks, the duration and the end date do not change. Why?

Hi jh2,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Have you Calculation turned on? - Tools/Options.../Calculation tab.

If so, use the split screen technique to see what's going on. See my series
on Microsoft Project in the TechTrax ezine, particularly #10 on multiple
resources and #11 on task types, at this site: http://tinyurl.com/2xbhc or
this:

(Perhaps you'd care to rate the article before leaving the site, :)
Thanks.)

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Mike,

Using the split screen as you suggested in the ezine article solved the
problem. But it takes a lot more time to enter it this way. You have to
enter names and units. When I entered the resource names in the resource
names field on the Gantt chart, the resource showed the same units, but
didn't affect the duration. I wondr why?

Anyway, you solved my problem and I really appreciate it. Thank you!!

You're welcome, Jim :) Using the split screen, where you can see all the
three elements as well as the effort driven setting, gives you all you need.
This is particularly important when there's more than one resource assigned
or to be assigned.
