That doesn't look like any error message produced by Word. What *EXACTLY*
does the error message say?

You might get this error message if your text is formatted as a
language for which you do not have proofing tools installed. Try
this: Open a document where this problem occurs, press Ctrl+A to
select all of the text, click on Tools | Language | Set Language
| <choose your language> | uncheck the "Detect language
automatically" and "Do not check spelling or grammar" boxes |
Default | OK. Then press F7 to rerun spelling and grammar
checks, and save the document.

You are not alone on this one. I have the exact same message (msgr??32.dll)
all the time. I do not know what it means or why it happens. It seems to be
completely random. Contrary to what many will say it has absolutely nothing
to do with Tools > Language > Set Language... Instead, go to
http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=273965 and look at "Method 4". It is the
only one that will work. Copying directly into a new Word Document will not
work as it seems to retain the previous attributes (disabled spell check);
there has to be another step in between (in this example, Notepad).

I keep getting a message that I have never gotten before in both MS Word and
MS Excel for Mac. When I open up either program it gives me a message that
says that it cannot initialize the spell checker, and I get the message so
often that I cannot use either program. What it says exactly is:

"Word cannot start the spelling checker. The spelling checker files may be
missing. Make sure the spelling checker files are installed or use the
Microsoft Office Installer to install the Spell Checker."

Sounds straightforward enough, but how do I do this, and why the problem all
of a sudden when there was none before?

Thanks!

Thank you bse3! I'm trying to write a paper for grad school, and I've just
spent an hour trying to fix my spell check. "Method 4" is the ONLY
solution!!
