When I click a document it won't come to front of screen- use xp

I have been given a relatively new PC with XP and outlook, after my old pc
crashed.

When I have multiple applications open and open on the screen , I can't get
the page I have chosen to come to the front of the screen. I have to
minimize the items that are open. I use word as my spell checker. This
didn't haven on my old computer
