When I delete a "}" at the end of a document, entire doc deleted

When I try to mark a spurious "}" character at the end of my 390 page
document, the entire document gets selected back to the first "{" on page
two. I tried ALT+F9 but the "}" apperas to be unmatched. Specifically, the
Index precedes the spurious "}" ... when ALT+F9 is keyed, the index simply
appears as:

{ Index \e" "\h "A" \c "2" \z "1033" }

The spurious "}" appears on the next page as the first character.

I tried to insert a "{" before the the spurious "}" but the behaviour didn't
change.

I'm stuck. The doc is 390 pages and 286 MB.

You have managed to get your entire document (including the index) inside a
field of some sort. The type of field it is should be noted at the very
beginning of the document (after the {). You may be able to unlink this
included field without unlinking the index.

As Suzanne says, "You have managed to get your entire document (including the index) inside a
field of some sort". Or at least a substantial part of it. If you position the insertion point just past the errant field brace and
extend the selection back by one character, that will cause the entire field to be selected. If you then scroll forward in the
document, you should be able to find where it starts.

From there it is a simple matter to select everything *between* the two field braces, cut the selection out and paste it
before/after the braces. Then simply delete the field braces.

Cheers

Thanks but it's a little too risky. There are 388 pages that would need to
be cut and pasted. I've been bitten too many times with subtle "changes"
that occur when I perform major operations.

I'll live with the funny character.

Hi Bob,

If you're worried, simply make a copy of the document and try it on that.
