When I delete an e-mail Microsoft Outlook sends an error message and has to
shut down. Have any of you experienced this and what was the resolution?

Hello
Do you see any Outlook or Office errors listed in your application event
viewer? I'm looking in particular for the event ID number and source.

Are you running any Outlook Add Ins? Not all Add Ins are compatible with
Outlook 2003. Also, are you running Terminal Services at all? Those two items
can cause this issue.
Have you reinstalled Outlook or run a repair from the install media?

If you could explain how I run a repair from the install media I will try that.

I am thinking that I will need the disc (I have that available to me).

I am not running any Add Ins and I don't know what a Terminal Service is, to
the best of my knowledge I have not installed any thing like this.

thank you, you are very helpful.

Wow, you've been chatting a lot! Great work Kathleen :)

Before anything else could you tell me how big your current pst-file is and
could you run scanpst.exe against it to check it for errors?
Also, have you ever cleared your Deleted Items folder? Not that it really
can become full but when it's filled with all sorts of items and since the
folder is tied into Outlook options it sometimes starts to act up.

You can find your pst-file-location by going to File-> Data File Management.
By default it is located here;
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook
(note that this is a hidden folder)

You can find scanpst.exe here;
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\<locale ID>
