When I delete styles in Word, they reappear in the next session

When I delete styles in the Word Styles and Formatting pane, they appear to
be deleted. However, when I close Word and start a new session, the deleted
styles are listed again in the Styles and Formatting pane. What gives? I have
write access to the file that I'm modifying and the associated template.

Some built-in styles cannot be deleted. Which styles are you trying to
delete? Word 2002 or 2003? Check under Tools > Templates and Add-Ins... with
the problem document open. Is the box to update styles checked? (It should
not be.)

Also, styles are stored in the document, and if you delete a style, it is
deleted (only) from the document.

It isn't deleted from the template your document was based on (= from where
new docs ger their styles).

You may want to open that template (Normal.dot?) and delete the style, then
save the template.

Recent versions of Word make it harder and harder to locate and open your
document templates.
One thing I do on all machines I'm working on is to add the template
folder(s) to the Places bar (which appears as the left pane of the Save and
Open dialogs).

Greetings,
Klaus

I also have Templates on the Places Bar; without that I'd waste a *lot* of
time.
