Where is the file when you double-click on it. In Explorer? In the
Excel File Open box?
Give us an example of the file name that has some spaces in it that
produces the multiple file openings when you double-click on it. HTH

Does the filename (including path) have spaces in it?

If yes, then sometimes this helps:

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.

An alternative might be to do:
Try Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it)

(Did you get any error message at all? If these didn't help, post back with any
error message.)

Yeah, I answered the question in the subject before I read the body of the
message.

I'm guessing that there are spaces in the filename since you said there were.

(someday, I'll learn to read both the subject and body!)

It was that :

Try Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it)
