Russ:
Here's the responses. Thanks for your interest.
What I'm referring to is editing a contact on the contacts page in
Outlook.
I've tried to "add a new contact" from the phone list display, I've tried
selecting and opening one contact's information, then tried to edit it and
'save and close'. In either case the error message "Outlook has
encountered a
problem and needs to close" pops up. The dialog has buttons for sending
and
error message or not. Once one of them has been pushed, Outlook shuts
down.
Nothing is saved.
I think that the problem started (at least when I first noticed it) was
last
summer, after a virus had infected my pc, we had to make backups and
eventually reinstall the operating system (xp). I've had no other
problems
in any other areas, which led me to believe that the pst file I created as
the backup may have been the problem. But I think I've eliminated that as
a
possibility. Hope this helps.
Thanks again for trying to help.

Provide some information. State which steps you are using. State what you
mean by "contact list" (Outlook uses no such term). State what Outlook
does
when it "crashes." State error messages. If your installation ever
worked,
state the changes that broke it.

Everything else in Outlook seems to work okay, but when I attempt to
add
or
edit any contact on the contact list, Outlook crashes.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook (2003), and updated it with
all
SPs. I got rid of the old pst file (which I thought might have been
corrupted), and have started with a new, empty contacts list. But I
still
have the problem, when I try to add a contact, the app crashes.
