when I format some text the whole doc changes!

Hi,

Recently when I am in Word 2003 or Outlook 2003 something has changed:
whenever I try to change the formatting of some text(s) (i.e. to bold
or italics) it changes either the entire document or every word with
that style. When I undo it then just formats the text I has selected.
What has happened? Can I turn it back to the original setting?

Your help is much appreciated.
